Learn about the legislation regarding hunting rifles.
Hunting is a hobby that allows you to have a unique contact with nature, as well as the practice of shooting in authorized environments. This activity is regulated by a set of legal guidelines that must be respected. Here are some of the most important ones.
Hunting is an activity that requires obtaining specific authorizations for practicing the sport, such as a hunting license, as well as permits for the use and carrying of firearms. Obtaining a hunting license is the first step for anyone interested in this activity.
The hunting license can be obtained by completing a specific training course designed for this purpose, as well as successfully passing an examination.
Furthermore, according to Law No. 42/2006 of August 25th (amended by Law No. 59/2007 of September 4th and Law No. 17/2009 of January 14th), carrying firearms requires a license obtained from the PSP (Public Security Police). The firearms authorized for hunting are categorized under Classes C and D, as described below.
Firearms classified under Class C:
a) Semiautomatic, repeating, or single-shot long firearms with rifled barrels;
b) Semiautomatic, repeating, or single-shot long firearms with two or more barrels, as long as one of them is rifled;
c) Semiautomatic or repeating long firearms with smoothbore barrels that do not exceed 60 cm in length;
d) Single-shot handguns capable of firing only centerfire ammunition;
e) Firearms with a caliber up to 6 mm capable of firing only rimfire ammunition;
f) Replicas of firearms used for sport shooting;
g) Airguns with a caliber greater than 5.5 mm.
Firearms classified under Class D:
a) Semiautomatic or repeating long firearms with smoothbore barrels longer than 60 cm;
b) Semiautomatic, repeating, or single-shot long firearms with rifled barrels longer than 60 cm, capable of firing only smoothbore ammunition;
c) Single-shot long firearms with smoothbore barrels.
