However, even perfect aim and strong focus may not be enough for a clean and accurate shot. Even the best shooters need a good airgun and the right accessories, including quality ammunition — in this case, pellets. Despite their importance, pellets are often underestimated in shooting practice.

There are many types of ammunition, but today we will focus on pellets, specifically 6.35 caliber pellets, 5.5mm and 4.5mm.

Although 6.35 caliber pellets have never been as popular as 5.5mm (.22) or 4.5mm (.177), their high deformation capacity allows excellent penetration and strong impact, making 6.35mm (.25) pellets ideal for air rifle hunting. However, other calibers are also highly effective depending on the intended use.

• The round pellet (spherical) delivers greater impact but lower accuracy. It is recommended for larger calibers, ideally above 5.5mm. If you have a 6.35 air rifle or pistol, this is a good option when impact matters more than precision.
• The diabolo pellet is less spherical and divided into sections. It offers higher speed and a longer trajectory but is more affected by external factors such as wind, making it less suitable in unstable outdoor conditions.
• The flat-head pellet is less precise but ideal for short distances. It is perfect for beginners learning to handle their airgun.
• The pointed pellet is one of the fastest and most accurate options, ideal for experienced shooters looking for precision.
• The hollow-point pellet delivers strong impact and expansion but has a shorter range. It is ideal if you want maximum stopping power at shorter distances.

In Portugal, there are many shooting ranges where you can practice, but you can also build your own shooting or plinking range if you have the space.
