Sport Shooting Licenses
Now that you know the main places to practice sport shooting in Portugal, it is time to understand the legislation governing this magnificent sport.
What is the Minimum Age to Practice Sport Shooting?

To start practicing Federated Sport Shooting, you must be at least 10 years old. You must pass the Federative License Access Test (TAC) organized by the FPT, and if you are a minor you may only practice with air guns that are free to purchase.
At the age of 14, you can practice with conditionally acquired air guns as well as firearms, provided you pass the access exam for this type of license (A/D) organized by the FPT.
For minors, authorization from the legal guardian is required.
What Do You Need to Start Practicing Sport Shooting?
To start practicing federated sport shooting, you must follow these steps:
- Join a Shooting Club affiliated with the FPT;
- Pass the Federative License access exam — organized by the FPT;
- Be registered with the FPT and hold the respective license.
The license is valid for one calendar year and can be renewed/maintained as long as there is no violation of the rules established in the Federative License Regulations.
If you wish to practice with weapons that are not free to purchase, you must obtain the Sport Shooting Gun License issued by the Direção Nacional da Polícia de Segurança Pública (DNPSP). Its issuance depends on obtaining the Federative License.
What is the Federative Sport Shooting License?
The federative sport shooting license is issued by the FPT and allows the practice of precision sport shooting. It is valid for one calendar year, and its maintenance and renewal require compliance with the rules established in the Federative License Regulations.
This license can be granted at the following levels:
