PCP air rifles are airguns equipped with a compressed air reservoir that propels the projectile when you pull the trigger. These rifles require refill kits and additional air tanks, although they can also be filled using manual pumps, though this method requires more effort.

Advantages

In addition to all the features mentioned above, these air rifles are highly versatile because:

• they do not need to be reloaded after every shot;
• they offer high power, being considered among the most powerful air rifles;
• they have no recoil, which improves accuracy.

Disadvantages:

• they are priced above average, although they are very durable;
• the charging system requires pumping or a high-pressure air compressor.

Things to consider:

• the compressed air used must be of good quality and free from moisture;
• never exceed the pressure specified by the manufacturer. If this happens, immediately close the tank valve and open the bleed screw to release excess air before disconnecting the fill connector.

Most PCP air rifles, when fully charged, can fire 30 or more pellets at consistent speeds before needing to refill the cylinder. 

This consistency is one of the reasons why PCP air rifles dominate 10-meter target shooting and Field Target competitions. Another reason is that there is no need to break the barrel or reload a pellet after each shot.

IMPORTANT: when filling a PCP air rifle, never use pure oxygen, as this poses a very high risk of explosion.
